19th Biennial Lecture Series - Call for Abstracts NEW!
The Structural Group is now soliciting abstracts for the 19th Biennial Lecture Series entitled “Sustainable Structures.” Please click on the link above for detailed information on submitting an abstract. The Biennial Lecture Series will take place on March 2, 16, 30 and April 13, 2011, at the Harold Washington Library in downtown Chicago.

Nate Morriss, P.E., S.E. - Chair
This position attends monthly ASCE-IL board meetings; prepares agenda and leads monthly Structural Group committee meetings; acts as a liaison to ASCE-IL Board, SEI, and SEAOI; and maintains the information on the ASCE-IL website including the Structural Group calendar.
Zaida Morillo, P.E. - Past Chair
This position provides input to the Structural Group committee and acts as a liaison with the Engineers Without Borders committee within ASCE-IL.
Victor Van Santen , P.E., S.E. - Vice Chair
This position coordinates the monthly dinner meetings including advertising, registrations, scheduling location, menu, and gifts. The Vice Chair attends the SEI annual meeting in the fall after their term (as incoming Chair). The Vice Chair also substitutes for the Chair as needed.
Jameelah C. Muhammad, E.I. - Treasurer
This position keeps financial records for the group, handles the group’s income and expenses, and submits monthly reports to the group.
Dennis F. Morgan, P.E., S.E. - Secretary
This position prepares and distributes monthly committee meeting minutes and is in charge of maintaining the database of speakers, vendors and sponsors.
Julie Babush-Rivera, P.E. - Special Events
This position organizes special events such as field trips and tours that are of interest to structural engineering professionals.
Richard Westberg, E.I. - Student Liaison
This position maintains contact with university student chapters, solicits applications for the annual Structural Group scholarship(s) to be presented at the President Elect/Student Awards dinner every April, reviews applications, and notifies the winner(s).
Rich Villanueva - Fundraising
This position seeks corporate sponsorships for various events organized by the structural group committee, submits reports as needed to the committee, and maintains and adds potential speakers/vendors/sponsors to the existing structural group speaker list.
Vacant - Training
This position investigates and plans multiple training events such as NHI AASHTO LRFD.

Congratulations to the 2010 IL Section Structural Group Scholarship award recipients!

Special Events
On June 14, 2008, the Structural Group sponsored a tour of a steel plant in Gary, Indiana. About 30 members participated in the tour. Special thanks goes to Industrial Steel Construction (ISC) for giving a tour of their facility. Click on the picture below to view a slideshow of pictures from this event.
