Group Outing – Millennium Park “Behind the Scenes” Tour
Description: A behind the scenes tour of Millennium Park highlighting how the Park addresses the transportation needs with discussion of Park’s design in relation to public transportation hubs. The tour will end with an open discussion at Park Grill in Millennium Park.

Topic: EWB’s Bridge Adventure Story in Guatemala
Synopsis: In 2005, Hurricane Stan swept over the eastern region of Guatemala and completely destroyed a key pedestrian bridge over the El Benque River that left eight Mayan villages stranded without reliable access to the outside world. In March of 2008 a Chicago team of engineers and friends belonging to a group known as Engineers Without Borders (EWB) traveled to Guatemala on a mission to work with these Mayan villagers to construct a 100-foot suspension replacement bridge. The bridge was located in a remote mountainous region in eastern Guatemala only accessible by foot or mule, five miles from the nearest primitive road.
