COMMITTEES
Committees, like the Technical Groups generate the society's programs and opportunities for professional development of civil engineers as well as helping the internal components of the Section run smoothly. The Committees conduct meetings and conference calls to facilitate the necessary activities.Student Outreach Committee
Civil Engineering - Turning Ideas Into Reality
“Scientists discover the world that exists; engineers create the world that never was.”
- Theodore von Karman
Civil engineers are changing the world. They dream up creative, practical solutions that benefit the everyday lives of people and the communities in which we live. They work with smart and inspiring people to invent, design and build things that matter. (Courtesy of ASCE)

What is the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)?
Founded in 1852, the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) represents more than 133,000 members of the civil engineering profession worldwide, and is America's oldest national engineering society. ASCE's vision is to position engineers as global leaders building a better quality of life. The Society and its volunteers are fully engaged in making this a better world by design.
What is the Illinois Section of ASCE?
The Illinois Section represents Civil Engineers in northern Illinois. The Illinois Section ASCE includes the main Board, 5 Technical Groups, and a Younger Member Group. Professional Development has been the major focus of the Illinois Section, and its 5 Technical Groups, numerous committees, regular technical programs and lecture series provide unique opportunities for civil engineers to interact with their peers.
The Section is also committed to providing outreach and support to students of all age levels who are interested in Civil through providing scholarships, volunteering and working at various outreach events, working with school activities (i.e. science fairs) and many more. If you have an idea on how ASCE can help you, please let us know by visiting www.isasce.org and contacting us!
